Planning on Moving? Here are 4 Easy Ways to Get Settled

Are you planning on moving? Read these easy ways to make your next move a breeze!

Moving day can be stressful, but, then again, it can also be a breeze if you’re forward-thinking, make the right decisions and set things in motion to work in your favor.  Like a lot of things in life, there are several steps you can take to make moving day a near-painless process. Here are five easy ways to make moving as manageable and stress-free as possible so that you can get settled in in no time.

1. Clean Before You Start Unpacking

Before you unpack any moving boxes, thoroughly clean your new home. Usually, the previous owners will have done this already, but it may not be up to your standards or they may have cut corners and think you wouldn’t notice the shabby job. That’s why it’s better if you do some additional cleaning before you settle in, so you can feel comfortable knowing your place is as clean as it needs to be for you and your family to truly feel at home. Gather a few cleaning supplies like a broom and dustpan, disinfectant wipes, a toilet scrubber, wet/dry mop, rag and multi-surface cleaning spray.  Then, get to work and clean every inch of your new house until you’re completely satisfied. Once you’re finished, you can begin unpacking your boxes and start getting yourself completely settled in.

2. Make Sure You Have All of Your Stuff

It’s easy for things to get lost or misplaced when moving, and that’s why it’s important to make sure everything gets to your new place in one piece. If you packed delicate, formal kitchen dining ware and other expensive household items, check to make sure everything is still in one piece and made it to your new home safely. For greater peace of mind, create a before and after checklist of all your belongings to ensure everything was delivered.

3. Get Your Furniture Delivered

Whether you’re flying cross country or driving across town or to a new city, simply picking up and moving to a new place can be a tiring and stressful process. Fortunately, you can make things easier on yourself — and make sure your cherished family room pieces make it to your new home in one piece — by getting your furniture delivered. Now, if you’re purchasing all new furniture for your home, consider getting it delivered to avoid the hassle of moving your new couch, bed or sofa on your own. Of course, we all know how time-consuming and frustrating that can be, so why not let the pros do all the hard work for you?

4. Register Your Children for School

If you have children, register them for school ahead of your move. That way, they’ll be able to start school immediately once you move to your new neighborhood. Oftentimes, this can be done by contacting the school and filling out registration forms and sending in any required documents beforehand.

Registering your kids for school ahead of time ensures they don’t miss too many days during the move from your old neighborhood to your new one. This can make it easier for your children to settle into a new routine — at a new school and with all new kids — as quickly as possible. So, aim to get this done well before moving day.

Start Getting Settled

Now that you know what to do before moving, you can feel more confident, relaxed and excited about the big day. By using these and other tips and tricks, you can more easily and successfully get settled in and feel comforted knowing that everything is in place in this new chapter of your life.
