These fun pillows are a great way to add color to your living room or bedroom! Recycle your old throw pillows and give them a new life with this easy project. Here are the simple instructions!

How to make a simple bullseye pattern:

Step 1:

Pinch the top layer of fabric from the center of the pillow cover.

Step 2:

Wrap a rubber band around every 2-4 inches of the fabric. You’re creating sections to block out the dyes and make the pattern.

Step 3:

Wearing gloves, mix the dyes according to package directions. Over a sink, squeeze the dye onto both sides of the pillow cover, alternating colors on each section of the fabric. Make sure you wring out any excess liquid. Allow the colors to set for 10 minutes.

Step 4:

Cut the rubber bands and lay the pillow cover flat on paper until it has dried. Insert a pillow and you’re done! Make sure you wash the covers separately the first few times to prevent the colors from bleeding onto the rest of your laundry.

We’re loving this living room! To spice things up a bit, the designer loaded up the coffee table with unique accessories inspired by the ocean: a carved wooden bowl filled with sea shells, and a beautiful green bottle which also doubles as a vase. The artwork on the walls was grouped together to form a collage of natural landscapes, perfectly complementing the watery blues found in the pillows and rug. To keep from overwhelming the eye, the sofa and walls were kept to a neutral beige hue which made way for the eye popping blue accessories.

I love the watery color palette in this room which seems so relaxing and subtle. As a general rule, pillows should be washed 2 times a year. This helps get rid of bacteria and skin cells that build up in your pillows over time. Usually, even perfectly good pillows turn a yellowish color. Here’s how to make them look brand new!

What you will need: 1 cup laundry detergent, 1 cup powdered dishwasher detergent, 1 cup bleach (or vinegar), and 1/2 cup borax.

First, remove your pillowcases and pillow protectors. Add all the ingredients mentioned above and wash your pillows on the hottest setting. When the washing cycle is complete, you can run it through an extra spin cycle just to get rid of any leftover water.

When the washing cycle is finished, dry your pillows in the dryer. If you have pillows made of down feathers, use the air cycle. If your pillows are synthetic, use the low heat setting. When you place your pillows in the dryer, throw in a few tennis balls covered in clean socks. This will help fluff the pillows as they dry.
