Sometimes, it can be hard to keep on top of cleaning in your home when you have a busy schedule!

Photos By: Unsplash

You will also notice that through time you might run out of storage space and this is when you will have to consider getting rid of clutter. Not only will clutter look bad in your home but it is also bad for your wellbeing. Below, we are going to discuss why clutter is bad for your wellbeing and how you can get rid of it. Read on to hear some of our tips.

Can be a Hazard

One of the reasons why clutter is bad for your wellbeing is because it can actually be a hazard to have in your home. When you have a lot of items lying around it can cause you to trip up and fall and they can also be a fire hazard. On top of that, when you leave items on the floor, you will find that they will begin to gather dust or even start to mould through time. This makes it dangerous for people in homes that suffer from breathing-related illnesses like asthma or for those who suffer from allergies.

Cause You to Lose Focus

Another reason why clutter is bad for your wellbeing is that it can actually cause you to lose focus on things that you are doing. Your brain likes to be organised and, if you are seeing a lot of things out of place and clutter lying around, you will find it a lot harder to focus. As well as making it harder for you to focus, it can make you feel a lot more anxious or stressed that can impact your daily life and carrying out tasks.

Consider Storage

When you are hoping to get rid of clutter, you might not want to part with the items if they are valuable or have a lot of meaning to them. Items like this are the main reason for clutter but, if you just don’t have the space for them then, you will need to come up with a different solution. If you don’t want to part with the items then you should consider putting them into storage so you still have them in your possession but just not in your home. The cost of self storage is actually more affordable than you may think, so have a look at your options to find the right one for you.

Donate to Charity

If you have lots of items that are in good condition and you think others could get use out of them you should consider donating them to charity. Lots of people can’t afford to buy new things and they use charity shops so, you could help someone a lot by donating the items rather than throwing them away. Make sure to find a local charity shop that you could donate to.

Recycle

If the items are no use to you and they are not suitable to be donated to a charity then, you should consider recycling your items. This is a good thing to do because not only will you be able to remove the clutter from your home but, you can also do your bit for the environment and reduce the waste and pollution.

Removing clutter from your home can be beneficial in improving your wellbeing and making your home more enjoyable to live in. Make sure to try out some of our ideas and see if they make a difference.

Get your home organized this year with some of these easy space-saving storage ideas!

Photos via: Living Etc.

Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to get rid of the clutter in your home and have a house that feels more spacious, organized and stylish? If so, one of the factors you’re no doubt thinking about is storage. Most people find that there never seems to be enough room available to store all their belongings, and things like children’s toys, games, sports equipment, paperwork and so on are constantly in the way.

However, no matter how much “stuff” you have accumulated in your property, there are ways you can maximize your storage space. Read on for some space-saving storage ideas to help bring more calm and order to your home in 2019.

Add Shelving Where Floor Space Is Limited

One of the best ways to get more storage space is to add shelving around your home, especially where floor space is limited. Bracketed shelving systems can be put on walls that are otherwise not being used, instead of you taking up more space on the floor with tables and drawers. If you have a home office and are studying from home, you may really benefit from organizing your space properly. You can also use services like Superbgrade and college essay writing service to help you with your schoolwork!

Floating shelves, attached via decorative wire or chains, are also a good option, particularly in small spaces since they’re simple and uncluttered. To get more out of your wardrobes, install some hanging shelves in the ceiling space. These are handy for storing things you don’t use often, like Christmas paper tubes, hat boxes or seasonal clothing.

Keep in mind, too, that usually the area above doorways and appliances, particularly in the laundry, don’t tend to be taken advantage of. You can increase storage in your home, therefore, if you put in shelving in these areas.

For instance, add shelves over your bathroom door, and store back-up toiletry supplies or towels there — this then gives you more space under the sink and in shaving cabinets for the things you use every day. In your laundry, add shelving above the washing machine and/or dryer where you can keep your laundry supplies or other bits and pieces.

Utilize Multi-purpose Furniture

Another good way to free up space around your home is to utilize multi-purpose furniture. These days you don’t have to look hard to find functional furniture pieces that work double-time and free up space for more storage.

For example, in your children’s rooms, why not have beds that contain built-in shelves or drawers used to house books, toys, clothes and trinkets? If you’re a book-lover whose house is bursting with tomes, consider buying a lounge that features purpose-built shelving for books and magazines. Alternatively, if you have a space you want to split into two, use a freestanding wardrobe as a room divider and storage option.

Also, keep an eye out for multi-functional furniture ideas such as side tables to store magazines; coffee tables with holes for wine bottles; modular bookcases that contain built-in cat playgrounds; dining room tables that can function as pool tables; coffee tables that can be converted into desks and more. You don’t have to be handy with an Allen key or screwdriver to set these products up either, as there are specialists who handle this kind of job, like these Dallas furniture assembly companies.

Buy a Range of Magnetic Strips

It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering storage ideas, but magnetic strips can certainly be of assistance in the home. Buy a range of wall-mounted strips and use them to hang light items in various rooms of your house.

For example, in the kitchen they can be a handy device to hang up kitchen tools you use often, which in turn frees up space for other gear in drawers or cupboards. In the bathroom, attach extra supplies to the insides of cabinet doors, and in your office hang stationery items on the wall above your desk to keep drawers for larger goods. If you’re an artist, crafter or sewer, magnetic strips can be used to hang your oft-used supplies, rather than taking up room on your hobby table or in cupboards.

Make Use of Under-stair Space

If your home is two or more levels, you no doubt have stairs in your house. The space under these stairs is likely underutilized and the ideal spot to convert into extra storage. There are many uses for this kind of an area. For instance, equip it with shelving and hanging space and store a variety of bulky and/or awkward items used for cleaning in addition to umbrellas, coats, boots and the like, or you turn the space into an arts-and-crafts nook or study spot for kids, or make it a tucked-away home office for yourself.

If you have kids in your home, you can bet that you have clutter, especially in their room. Here’s how to solve it – fast!

Photo: Joyelle West Photography

From the new toys you buy daily to the old toys from years ago, they stack up and they take up a lot of room. Unfortunately, most kids do not care where their toys go, and they simply throw them around the room to create a “neat” appearance for some time. Fortunately, there are some awesome toy storage ideas below that will encourage your child to pick up his or her room more often.

Mesh Hangers

If you have never seen a mesh hanger, you need to Google it right now. These hangers are the perfect toy storage option for your child’s room and they will love them as much as you do. These little hangers allow your child to put toys in storage in the different open slots and they can grab their toy, play with it, and put it back with ease.

Wall Garage for Hot Wheels and Cars

If your little one has tons of cars such as Hot Wheels or Matchbox, it may be time to build a small garage on the wall in order to get organized. The garage can be made from wood and feature several shelves that the cars can stack right on to. Use a couple of dowels to keep the cars from rolling off either side and you are good to go. Your child will love how organized their cars look and they can even color-code the shelves.

Photo: Lucy Interior Design

Toy Box with a Bench

Why not have a toy box that can double as a toy box and a bench? This is a wonderful idea that will literally kiss the clutter goodbye for any kid’s room and you can even turn a traditional toy box into a bench. Simply paint the toy box your child’s favorite color, add some designs, a pillow for them to sit on and you have yourself a toy box bench.

One of the nice things about the toy box bench is that it encourages your child to read too as they have a fancy little spot to sit.

If your child has collectable toys, determine that before they get put in the toy box as they are sure to get damaged from other toys and from frequent use. Follow these storage tips to help with collectable toy storage: https://www.storagearea.com/blog/how-to-store-your-collectible-toy-collection.html

Photo: Energy Smart Home Plans

Stuffed Animal Cage

You’ve likely seen the large cages at the store that have balls in them and you can easily grab the balls and then toss them back at the top. This same idea works wonders for stuffed animals too and you do not have to put much work in to create your child’s own little zoo area.

The zoo is made from wood and uses bungee cords that allow your child to reach in and remove any stuffed animal they want. The zoo keeps the stuffed animals in a neat order so that they are no longer all over the floor.

If you do not like the zoo idea or do not have the room, consider a stuffed animal hammock.

Cute Storage Ideas Can Lead to Fun When Cleaning Up

If your child likes the storage ideas you put in their room, cleaning up will not be difficult and you will find that they enjoy it and keep their room clean.

2. Keep Your Pantry Organized

Winter is on it’s way and summer is behind us, and that means making some changes to our closets! Learn how to store and organize seasonal clothing to make the most of your closet space.

In this article we’ll be showing you how to store all of your seasonal clothing! Summer is over, and now it’s time to put all of our summer clothes away to make room for our winter stuff! Take a look at our tips on how to get your seasonal clothes organized and make more room in your closet!

Before Storing Your Clothes

Always wash your clothes before storing them. If your clothes have been dry-cleaned, remove them from the bag. The bag can encourage mildew and trap moisture. Use cotton garment bags or cotton sheets to protect your clothes from dust. Pick a storage location that’s cool, dry, and well-ventilated. Don’t store your winter clothes in your attic, since the heat in the summer can damage the fibres. Always store clothes away from direct sunlight, as it can fade your clothes.

Pick the Right Hangers

Avoid thin wire hangers and store jackets and coats on padded hangers or thick wooden hangers. Hang pants by the cuff or hem to avoid creases. Hang your skirts from waistbands using skirt hangers. You can use wooden or plastic hangers for shirts and blouses.

Storing Your Clothes in Boxes

When storing your clothes in boxes, avoid boxes made out of cardboard. Cardboard is acidic, and the glue on it can attract pests. Use plastic containers with a lid instead. Always label the containers using a permanent marker.

Keep Moths Away

If you have moths in your area, mothballs can help protect your clothes that are made from natural fibers. Mothballs should only be used in sealed containers. Never place them directly on stored clothing. Don’t wear clothing immediately if it has been stored with mothballs. Air it out for at least a day before wearing. For a more natural way to keep away moths, you can place sachets of lavender with your clothes.

Storing Seasonal Clothes

You can use a rolling garment rack to store your clothes. They’re inexpensive, sturdy, and can hold a lot of clothes. As an alternative, you can store your clothes in suitcases. Don’t forget to label them! If you have a closet with a high ceiling, you can add a hanging rod to hang up your seasonal clothes.

In need of an organized home office? Read on for our tips on how to design the perfect office for your home!

It doesn’t matter if your office is for running a business, or simply paying bills, everyone should have a space where they can get work done in comfort. An office should be a space where you want to spend time, so it should be organized, comfortable, and reflect your personal style. Check out our tips on how to design an organized home office!

1. Get a Good Chair

You’ll be spending a lot of time sitting in your office chair, so invest in a high-quality one. A comfortable seat is worth every penny!

2. Wall Color

Choose a wall color that you love, and one that makes you feel relaxed and at ease. Don’t go for drab colors, but choose one that brightens up the room – and you! Some people love bright green, others feel relaxed with sea foam. Choose a color that suits you best and keeps your office looking as professional as possible. You may also want to consider personalizing your home with vinyl lettering and wall decals for a temporary look that’s budget friendly and cute!

3. Organize

Since many offices tend to be on the smaller side, organization is key to getting the most out of your space. Hang shelves onto the walls to get rid of unnecessary clutter on your desk, and use vertical file folders to keep important papers in one place. Also be sure to label where everything goes, with printed labels like those from labelcity.com, inc.

4. Light

Make sure your office has plenty of light to keep headaches and eye strain at bay. Turn your computer monitor away from direct light to avoid a glare, and place a lamp on your desk to brighten it up. If you are working from home or even studying at home, it is important to keep your working environment as comfortable as possible.

Is your garage a bottomless pit that’s practically impossible to organize? Not to worry, we’ve got 7 easy tips on how to keep your garage tidy and organized!

The key to keeping your garage tidy and organized is having a place for everything. Investing in storage for all your items keeps them off the floor and easy to find. If your garage is currently overloaded with things you don’t need and very disorganized, it may be time to start getting things in order. If you use your garage as a workshop or use it to fix up your damaged car, there are still ways to keep it organized and tidy. Take a look at these 7 ideas to keep your garage organized and the envy of all your neighbors!

1. Shelves

Put up a few shelves to get smaller items off the floor. You can find cheap ones at Ikea that will hold all your necessities without breaking the bank.

2. Storing Tools

Use a pegboard to keep all your tools in one place. Attach hooks to keep your tools at hand and in view when you need them.

3. Use Cans

Use cans to hold sand, salt, or bird seed. Way easier than messy bags, metal cans provide a secure place to hold things that are prone to spilling.

You don’t have to use hooks just for tools! Bikes, ladders, and shovels can be hung up to make more space in your garage and max our your self storage.

This snazzy bulletin board is perfect for the office, bedroom, or kitchen! Get organized in style by making your own. Here’s how!

Stylish bulletin boards are in, and plain ones are definitely out! These fabric covered bulletin boards reflect your personal style and taste, so make them unique and your own! Follow along with our simple tutorial to create one for your space!

What you will need:

– a bulletin board

– fabric of your choice

– craft paint of your choice

– small paint brush

– an iron

– spray adhesive

– glue gun and glue sticks

– twine for edging (optional)

Step 1:

First, paint the frame of the bulletin board in the color of your choice.

Step 2:

Measure and cut the fabric to the exact size of your bulletin board. Iron the fabric to remove wrinkles. Use spray adhesive on the back of the fabric and the bulletin board and attach them together.

Step 3:

If you like, add the sisal twine between the frame and the fabric using the glue gun.
