When people think about insulating their homes, one of the areas that their mind instantly turns to is the roof. Attic insulation is a job that makes so much sense, as this is where a big percentage of the heat is lost in the average home. Not only is this quite easy to install, but it is also very effective. Governments are encouraging homeowners to take efficiency measures, so it is worth seeing if there are any financial incentives for you to do this.

Draught Proofing

While draught proofing may appear to be a relatively small job, you may well end up being surprised by just how much of a big impact it can have on the warmth in your own home. There are plenty of different items that can work as draught excluders, including foam strips, chimney balloons, and draught excluder brushes. Ultimately, you need to look at anywhere that there may be cold air rushing into your home and work out the ways in which you can stop this from being the case for you.

Thermal Curtains and Blinds

You may not have thought too much about your curtains and the impact that they can have on your home. In fact, during the winter months of the year, it is worth putting on some thermal curtains that are especially thick. Make sure that you use them properly. Let in any sunlight that you can but close them during the night-time hours.

Double Glazing

In terms of obvious yet effective solutions to your home insulation problems, there is no doubt that double glazing should come at the top of the list. There was a big boom in this during the 1980s and 1990s, but if your home has not yet undergone it, you should certainly consider this as an option. A possible alternative to double glazing is secondary glazing.

Wall and Floor Insulation

The final two types of insulation that we are going to be discussing in this blog post are wall and floor insulation. No matter how old your home is, making sure that the walls are properly insulated can end up going a long way towards keeping the heat in. The same is true of your floors as well. Plugging up the holes in the floors and putting down rugs is a quick fix. Alternatively, you could look into laying some new carpet, or go with a foil wrap insulation, which is always a viable option.
